In the years 1989-1991 and within the former German-Soviet Environmental Agreement 3 biological expeditions to the Taymyr peninsular in northernmost Siberia were performed. They laid the ground for the establishment of the Great Arctic Reserve (Zapovednik), which was inaugurated in 1993 with its secretariat in Dudinka.
