Dudinka, former capital of the Taymyr Autonomous Region, Russia February 1992

Dudinka is a town and the administrative center of Taymyrsky Dolgano-Nenetsky District of Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. It used to be the administrative center of Taymyr Autonomous Okrug, which was merged into Krasnoyarsk Krai on January 1, 2007. It is a port in the lower reaches of the Yenisei River, accessible to seagoing ships. In the years 1989-1991 and within the former German-Soviet Environmental Agreement 3 biological expeditions to the Taymyr peninsula in northernmost Siberia were performed. They laid the ground for the establishment of the Great Arctic Reserve (Zapovednik), which was inaugurated in 1993 with its secretariat in Dudinka.
