Variable Sunbird (Cinnyris venusta), Elementaita Lake, Kenya

The sunbirds are a group of small passerine birds largely feeding on nectar. In some way they fill the ecological niche in the Old World, which the hummingbirds in the New World occupy. The Variable Sunbird is a fairly common species in equatorial Africa.
