A veterinarian inspects a cage holding an orphaned gorilla, en route to a reserve in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Transferring gorillas from one area to another helps replenish populations and strengthen the gene pool, as gorilla populations are increasingly found in isolated ecological islands across the Congo Basin.
