Access to clean water and improved sanitation in Mozambique

The proportion of the population with access to safe drinking water has increased significantly to 56% in 2009, from 37.3% in 1997. The national target for 2015 is 70%. The proportion of the population with access to improved sanitation has increased from 40% in 2003 to 45% in 2009, with a target of 50% for 2015. Thus, Mozambique is likely to meet the 2015 targets for access to water and sanitation.
