Fishing boats in the harbour in Lofoten, Norway

The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), which provides advice on the management of fish stocks, has evaluated the North-East Arctic cod around Lofoten as being in a good and healthy condition, allowing catch quotas to be increased 10% in 2010 compared to 2009. The same, however, cannot be said for the other 13 cod stocks in the north-east Atlantic.
