Marine pollution: tackling land-based sources through multi-stakeholder action UN Ocean Virtual Side Event
Date and Time: Tuesday 28th June, 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM, GMT +1 (Lisbon)
GRID-Arendal is currently working on a crowd-sourced documentary in collaboration with the Sustainable Seas Trust, a nonprofit based in South Africa dedicated to keeping plastic out of our ocean. It’s called 100 African Voices, and this documentary aspires to collect over 100 different interviews of people from African mainland and island states in an effort to shed light on the challenge of plastic pollution, and initiatives to fight it.
In addition to the documentary, we have created an interactive map of Africa with selected clips of interviews from the perspective of educators who are teaching the next generation about these issues, researchers who are quantifying the problem, activists who are holding government officials accountable, and entrepreneurs who are finding private sector solutions. This map was created to showcase highlights of all the voices heard over the past year as well as a desire to create a deeper awareness and positive change related to plastic pollution throughout Africa.
