As a Senior Expert at GRID-Arendal, you will provide high-level scientific and technical expertise to projects addressing the triple planetary crisis, with a particular focus on climate change, biodiversity loss, and marine and coastal ecosystems. You will be responsible for planning and managing projects, supporting the development of new thematic work, and contributing to fundraising efforts. The position requires recognised subject-matter expertise, strong project management experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively across programmes and with external partners.
Reporting: The position reports to the Climate Impact Lead.
Collaboration: Work closely with other Thematic Leads and across all teams within GRID-Arendal.
Key responsibilities
Plan, lead, and implement large projects aligned with GRID-Arendal’s strategic priorities.
Contribute actively to strategic thinking and support the development of new thematic areas and project ideas.
Lead the development of project proposals, including engagement with new and existing donors and close collaboration with external partners.
Provide subject-matter expertise in areas such as climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, marine ecosystems, and sustainability.
Strengthen collaborations with scientific institutions, policy organisations, and other key stakeholders.
Build and maintain a strong network of external partners and donors to support project development and funding.
Contribute to scientific assessments, technical reports, and policy-relevant publications.
Represent GRID-Arendal through public presentations, expert meetings, and contributions to international processes or working groups.
Share knowledge with colleagues and actively contribute to team culture, including mentoring and supporting junior staff.
Contribute to the development of new methods, tools, and approaches that are recognised and adopted by partners and stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with GRID-Arendal’s policies, procedures, and ethical standards.

Language
Fluency in English (native-level proficiency required).
