Embanked Tidal Flats South of Incheon International Airport, South Korea

The Incheon International Airport, the largest airport in South Korea and one of the largest and busiest airports in the world, and its surrounding was build on the coasts of huge space of internationally important tidal flats. Further extensions are planned. The picture shows embanked areas south of the airport, where further development is under way, as well as some of the remaining tidal flats. How the loss of valuable coastal habitat can be compensated and remaining tidal flats protected is a big future challenge and opportunity for the country.
