Reindeer herding (Rangifer Tarandus), Finnmark, Norway
In 2005 there were 30 000 to 40 000 wild reindeer in Norway and now, the population of reindeer in Norway is reported to be growing at the same time that land for use in their management is shrinking (Environment.no). In the early 20th century, these reindeer were spread across three large management areas. Reindeer management areas today have been fragmented by human activity and the deer are split up across 23 small areas instead.
