Iceberg, Ilulissat Icefjord
Jakobshavn Glacier in the Ilulissat Icefjord holds the record as Greenland's fastest moving glacier and is a major contributor to the mass balance of the continental ice sheet. According to NASA scientists, Jakobshavn is the single largest contributor to sea level rise in the Northern Hemisphere. The melting ice stream has increased the rate of sea level rise by about .06 millimetres (about .002 inches) per year, or roughly 4 percent of the 20th century rate of sea level rise.
