In progress

A custom WordPress website connecting Arctic research, knowledge and people through accessible design and simplified content management.

Overview

GRID-Arendal developed a customised WordPress website for Beyond Arctic PASSION, a European research initiative working to strengthen Arctic observation systems and knowledge sharing.

The website brings together project activities, research themes, news, resources and partner information in an accessible, visually engaging platform.

Built using WordPress, Beaver Builder, Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and tailored functionality, the website includes a simplified front-end content management system. This allows project partners and contributors to manage and update information without needing to navigate the traditional WordPress administration interface.

What You’ll Find

The website provides a central platform for communicating the project's work from 2026 to 2030, including:

  • Project themes and activities: Structured content presenting the project's eight interconnected research themes, activities and challenges.
  • News and resources: A central location for project updates, publications and supporting materials.
  • People and partnerships: Information about the organisations and contributors involved in the project.
  • Custom content management: A streamlined editing interface that enables authorised contributors to create, update and manage website content.
  • Responsive design: A clear, accessible browsing experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Why It Matters

International research projects involve many organisations contributing information over several years. Keeping this information accessible, consistent and up to date requires more than a conventional website.

By combining structured WordPress content with a simplified editing experience, GRID-Arendal has created a platform that makes it easier for project contributors to share their work while maintaining a coherent visual identity.

The result is a flexible communication tool that supports collaboration, reduces the technical barriers to publishing and helps make Arctic research more accessible to wider audiences.
