Holuhraun Eruption and Northern Lights, Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland, August 12, 2014

In the evening August 12, 2014 in the Icelandic Highlands the unique co-incidence of red lava fountains of the Holuhraun eruptions and strong greenish northern lights was visible over long-distance for several observers. The remaining blue and yellow color of the clear sky (only partly covered by the black sulphur smoke of the volcanic activities) contributed to the remarkable picture. The Vatnajökull National Park's unique landscape is permanently formed by volcanic activities.
