Counting seals using drones

Martin Biuw is a researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research. As part of his work on the SeaBee project, he uses drones to count seals, allowing him to gather more detailed and accurate data on the health and well-being of the seal communities in northern Norway. This new and exciting way to use drones can also inform the work of other scientists, allowing them to learn lessons from Martin and explore ways that they, too, might be able to use drones in their work.

He recently had the difficult task of explaining his work to a class of nine-year-olds and answering their tough questions.

A big thank you to Arendal International School and Antonia Fiksdalstrand for letting us talk to your grade 4 class.
