Mountain area as percentage of total country area

The Mountain Adaptation Outlook Series – Synthesis Report draws on the findings of the seven mountain regions targeted through the Outlook series. Here we apply the definition of mountain regions initially developed by Kapos et al. (2000) to determine the percentage of mountain area per country. The 2015 UN adjusted Gridded Population of the World dataset was used to determine the share of the population living within each country’s mountain area.
