It is introduced GRID-Arendal's Annual Report for 1991-its second year of existence. Located on the charming southern coast of Norway in Arendal, GRID-Arendal has established a small but effective team of highly motivated experts. Working under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme, GRID-Arendal uses modern technology to link into a global environmental database system. It is strategically placed to serve the Nordic countries and the international community in developing, analyzing and presenting environmental information and data.

From the outset our foundation has striven to lead the way in what is environmentally relevant, technologically feasible, and what is a priority demand. GRID-Arendal is seeking partnerships and participatory networks with a variety of national and international environmental institutions which specialize in primary data gathering and analytical expertise. Our goal is to build information systems by bringing together data sources from many institutions with many kinds of expertise. Its main objective is to provide timely, understandable information to policy- and decision- makers and to the general public.
