Crab-eating Macaques (Macaca fascicularis) in mangroves of the Mu Ko Lanta Marine National Park, Thailand

The crab-eating macaque is native to Southeast Asia. They live in matrilineal social groups with a female dominance hierarchy and are opportunistic omnivores. The species has a long history alongside humans; they have been alternately seen as agricultural pests, sacred animals in some temples, and more recently, the subject of medical experiments.
