Mining and Mine Tailings in Asia
A preliminary examination of the management of mine tailings in Papua New Guinea, Mongolia, the Philippines, India, and Indonesia.
Bridging geology and governance to foster sustainable ocean and mineral stewardship.
As a geologist drawn to the interplay between Earth’s physical landscapes and human systems, I have dedicated my career to exploring how scientific insights can inform equitable and sustainable management of our planet’s resources. My journey has taken me from Denmark’s flat terrains to the Alps’ peaks, across oceans, and into the depths of seabed governance and mining practices. What I Bring
My professional path began with seismic surveys of the ocean floor, leading to roles in offshore oil and gas production. At GRID-Arendal, I have been privileged to contribute to the Continental Shelf Programme, assisting developing nations in defining their maritime boundaries under the UN Law of the Sea. This work has deepened my commitment to capacity building and collaborative governance. Expanding my focus to geological resources, I have engaged in initiatives aimed at transforming mining practices, particularly concerning the management of tailings dams. Co-authoring reports such as Mine Tailings Storage: Safety Is No Accident, I advocate for transparency and safety in the extractive industries .My Focus Areas
In My Own Words
″Understanding the Earth’s geology is just the beginning; it’s how we apply that knowledge to protect communities and ecosystems that truly matters.″More about me
