About GRID-Arendal
GRID-Arendal was established in 1989 by the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment to support environmentally sustainable development by collaborating with the United Nations Environment Programme and other partners. We work closely with UN agencies, regional organizations, national governments, and other strategic partners to create positive environmental outcomes and impact, particularly in developing countries. A significant focus for GRID-Arendal is supporting the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Climate Agreement, The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and other regional and international commitments.
To strengthen sustainable ocean governance, our Marine Environment Programme works to enhance capacity at regional and national levels in developing countries on Integrated Ocean Management (IOM) tools and processes. We aim to support the development of inclusive governance models where the rights of coastal communities and indigenous people are respected and where the full engagement of women and other marginalized groups is secured.
