Associate Expert Marine Environment

Main Activities


  • Assist with research and analysis of existing and emerging issues relevant to the marine programme (e.g., primary research support, fact-checking and literature review), as well as the development of written materials and resources for the programme
  • Create communications content for projects (e.g., videos and scripts, press releases, website content, social media posts, campaign mailers, social cards and flyers, etc)
  • Develop, (with support from the Production and Communication Office), and implement communication and dissemination strategies and track impact
  • Support our social media accounts and maintain project websites on Word Press and Wix
  • Act as the communications focal point for projects such as the Norwegian Blue Forests Network (NBFN)
  • Support project implementation in partner countries to protect and sustainably use coastal and marine ecosystems
  • Support project managers in strategic planning, results monitoring within relevant projects and in mainstreaming approaches in partner organizations
  • Organise workshops, meetings, capacity building and stakeholder engagement sessions both for physical meetings and meetings in electronic platforms
  • Develop and maintain strategic cooperation with partners, funders and networks
  • Manage sub-contracts, and prepare the programme’s donor reports
  • Perform project administration tasks as needed
  • Any other business as may be assigned by the supervisor


Professional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree within the field of environmental, marine sciences, communications or a bachelor’s degree combined with three years of relevant work experience
  • Proven ability to take responsibility for tasks while working closely with the team members and external partners
  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical language skills in English, skills in Norwegian or French considered as an advantage
  • Experience with environmental topics, which may include capacity building and awareness raising activities
  • Familiarity with marine conservation, management and policy desirable
  • Experience developing innovative communication products and communication strategies for a wide variety of audiences would be an asset
  • Experience in working with either the United Nations system (especially UN Environment), Norwegian Ministries or with international politics would be an asset
