Project Manager, UNEP-funded projects
GRID-Arendal is seeking a dynamic and committed Project Manager to manage UNEP projects and provide support to the activities of the Project Support Office to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of operational, financial, and administrative project support services. Besides managing UN Environmental Programme funded projects, the Project Manager will provide a range of project management support services to GRID-Arendal’s project managers to enable them to perform their duties responsibly, effectively, and efficiently. The incumbent will be working in close collaboration with staff of the Project Support Office to ensure consistent service delivery in line with the current practices and policies. You will be collaborating with a strong international team composed of people from diverse cultures, bringing together a broad spectrum of experiences across the globe. The position may require traveling. The project manager reports to Head of Project Support Office. Main activities· Manage and/or provide support to UNEP-funded projects · Coach project managers and provide advice on best practice approaches to project management. · Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of project management policy, processes, tools, and templates · Support quality assurance of all project documentation · Ensure appropriate project controls (risk, scheduling, budgetary and reporting) applies to projects, delivering transparency and lead indicators for project performance · Contribute to building GRID-Arendal’s capacity in effective project management by training staff in project management methods and standards · Assist in pre-approval of draft project plans prior to submission to the Managing Director for final approval · Perform other tasks assigned by the Head of Project Support Office · Contribute to a good and positive working environment Qualifications and skills· Formal project management education · Experience in managing research projects · Familiarity with UNEP structures and organisation is a merit · Proven ability to take ownership of projects and/or collaborate closely with a scientific expert, to give clear direction to others in the project team who will deliver throughout the project · Experience in reporting and managing project documentation GRID-Arendal will offer· A competitive salary based on qualifications and years of experience · International working environment linked to the UN Environment Programme and Norad (manager of grants in the field of development from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Ministry of Climate and the Environment · Work in one of Europe's leading environmental communication centres of great social significance. · A good working environment with the opportunity to be part of an interdisciplinary, challenging, creative and ambitious research and information environment. · Flexitime scheme, with summer and winter schedules. · Exceptionally good pension schemes and employee benefits Deadline for applications: 31.
