Transboundary Governance & Environmental Crime
Environmental crime is a threat to sustainable development, particularly to the environment, security and the global economy.
The Transboundary Governance & Environmental Crime Programme at GRID-Arendal currently has a large and growing portfolio of projects which focus on impacts with governments across the world, primarily in developing coastal states.
We are seeking a dynamic and committed colleague with an aspiration in these topics to assist in several of our projects.
The Senior Expert in Transboundary Governance is expected to provide extensive and quality support to the Transboundary Governance & Environmental Crime Programme activities in fundraising, research, and development in Transboundary Governance, working with environmental Conventions, preparing assessments, research papers and project proposals, analysing and synthesizing information and communicating it clearly and effectively to clients and stakeholders.
You will be working in a strong international team composed by people from diverse cultures and bringing together a broad spectre of experiences. GRID-Arendal provides you with a dynamic working environment. We are collaborating with people across the globe in different time zones therefore sometimes flexibility is required in making yourself available after working hours.
· Actively contribute to strategic thinking, supporting new development areas of GRID-Arendal
· Generate new opportunities and successfully develop projects, including securing funding from new and existing donors, international organisations, governments, and private sector.
· Create and maintain professional networks in the field, with the UN agencies, working in the environmental field; stablish and support communication and working relations with environmental Conventions.
· Establish and maintain good working relations with all stakeholders in countries of existing and prospect projects’ operations, paying special attention to contacts with relevant Ministries and government agencies, clients, and donors.
· Effectively contribute to the research and project work in the areas of professional expertise, including the development, research and editing of several types of assessment reports, feasibility studies, research papers etc, delivering high quality information and communication products.
· Give lectures, public presentations, publish work and develop new methods and tools, recognized by partners.
· Minimum a Masters (preferably a PhD) degree or equivalent in environmental or natural sciences and minimum 5 years of experience.
· Demonstrated fundraising skills and experience in development of fundable project proposals.
· Experience with transboundary governance related issues, work of international environmental Conventions.
· Proven management skills in project development, supervision of research teams, development of analytical information products.
· Experience in working with government agencies, working with the United Nations agencies is an advantage.
· Excellent language proficiency in English, in particular excellent writing and editing skills.
· Proactive attitude, a strong team player, capable to work independently when required
