Project Manager/expert for Arctic Marine Litter portfolio

The Polar and Climate Programme at GRID-Arendal currently has a large and growing portfolio of projects which focus on impacts of climate change, adaptation and resilience building, biodiversity as well as pollution in the polar and high mountain regions of the world.

We are seeking a dynamic and committed colleague with an aspiration to lead the Arctic marine litter and waste portfolio and increase the programme´s impact. You will bring your experience, energy and skills to assist with various tasks ranging from, project management to implementing projects, writing proposals and developing future projects, maintaining and establishing networks and assist and advice on marine litter, waste management, plastic pollution or other topics related to the Arctic environment.

You will be working with a strong international team composed of people from different cultures, bringing together a broad spectrum of experiences across the globe in different time zones. Therefore, sometimes flexibility is required in making yourself available after working hours. The position may require traveling.

This is full-time permanent position at our office in Arendal, Norway.

Main activities

  • Provide expertise in conducting desk study research, analysis, summarize findings, policy-oriented papers, and assessment reports in support of the Waste and Marine Litter Programmes
  • Develop integrated approach to planning of waste management at local, national and global lever in developing countries and countries in transition e.g., facilitate guidelines, contribute to action plans, strategies, inventories etc.
  • Contribute with knowledge-based information to regional and global level policy development
  • Facilitate relevant workshops, stakeholder consultations etc
  • Develop and maintain good relationship and regularly report to project clients and donors when necessary;
  • Provide expertise to Waste and Marine Litter Programmes’ communications, PR and awareness raising activities
  • Promote good external understanding of the Waste and Marine Litter programmes’ objectives and outputs
  • Managing projects by actively communicating internally about progress and challenges in project implementation;
  • Other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Head of Programme, Waste & Marine Litter.

Qualifications and skills

  • Higher education preferably Master's degree
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills. Norwegian is a strong advantage.
