GRID-Arendal is seeking an experienced communications officer to undertake the regional strategic planning and implementation of communications activities for the Mami Wata and the ResilienSEA projects. This person will work under the supervision of the project managers in Arendal, Norway, and in close consultation with the projects’ coordinators and team in Abidjan, Côte d´Ivoire and Dakar, Senegal, respectively.
The position is stationed in Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire), with a duration of two years.
The Mami Wata project
The marine and coastal environment of Western, Central and Southern Africa is particularly rich in terms of productivity, biodiversity and ecosystem services provision, but at the same time under significant pressure from multiple human activities including fishing, energy, pollution and infrastructure development. Mami Wata will provide technical and institutional, training-of-trainers and peerlearning based capacity building for national planners and decision-makers dealing with marine and coastal management, across relevant sector ministries and government agencies and in collaboration with existing regional Centres of Expertise. The project has three national pilot projects in Benin, Côte D’Ivoire and Ghana. More info on the Mami Wata project: http://www.grida.no/activities/7
The ResilienSEA project
Seagrasses are one of the ocean’s most important habitats, serving as nursey and feeding grounds, protecting our coastlines and storing carbon, among many other benefits. They are also one of the world’s least known ecosystems, and in dire need of protection. ResilienSEA will bring together managers and researchers to gather data and create national and regional expertise within West Africa, resulting in the ability to enact positive change for these habitats through scientific research, capacity building, advocacy and policy development. The project is active in seven countries in the region, Mauretania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Cabo Verde.
