A case of benign neglect - Knowledge gaps about sustainability in pastoralism and rangelands
Pastoralism and rangelands are globally significant, but under-recognized and undervalued.
During my Bachelors in Geography in Germany, I developed a strong interest in environmental issues related to water. I’m particularly interested in the effects of climate change in regions like the mountainous Himalayan area. I have combined this field with disaster risk reduction, my second main interest, in my Masters in "Geography of Environmental Risk and Human Security" at the United Nations University in Bonn. My work bridges the gap between natural and social sciences with a focus on vulnerability and environmental risk in developing countries.
At GRID-Arendal I am part of a project about Wastewater Management and Sanitation in Africa as well as the development of a gap analysis to existing data and information on rangelands and pastoralism. I am interested in this organization because of its values and its cooperation with UN Environment. I am glad to take part and contribute my knowledge to the GRID-Arendal community.
