Drake Passage
The Drake Passage are the waters between the southern tip of South America at Cape Horn, Chile and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. It connects the southwestern part of the Atlantic Ocean with the southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean and extends into the Southern Ocean. The passage is about 800km and thereby the shortest and most used shipping route from any continent to Antarctica. Although the journey from South America to the Antarctic Peninsular can often be a very rough one, it offers excellent opportunities to watch seabirds, such as albatrosses and petrels.
