From Source to Sea: Protecting our Ocean through Partnership and Investments

This information document and IW:LEARN Synthesis report highlights the role which the Global Environment Facility (GEF) International Waters (IW) focal area has had over the years in assisting countries to implement actions towards meeting the objectives of the Global Programme of Action (GPA) for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities. The GPA is a voluntary, action-oriented, intergovernmental programme coordinated through UN Environment to prevent the degradation of the marine environment from land-based activities. The partnership between the GPA and the GEF has enabled countries to make the necessary investments to address key challenges related land-based sources of pollution and marine degradation.
