THE CGIAR SPATIAL DATASET HOLDINGS CATALOGUE
(METADATA)

A new version of the catalogue, including more complete data and being integrated
to the UNEP Meta Database, is now in progress! Check this page later for updates!

The Data Catalogue was compiled to help members of the CGIAR network to find data available at the other Centers, or to have an overview of all self-produced data existing in the CG Centers. It so far contains data descriptions from the following CG Centers: CIAT, CIFOR, CIP, ICLARM, ICRISAT, IITA, ILRI, IRRI and WARDA, and related Institutions like ICIMOD Nepal, The list is expected to extend as new data lists come in.
The catalogue contains search information, such as geographical coverage, date of collection, (INFOTERRA) keywords for orientation, contact persons for requests, source information etc., and is designed to be combined with the UNEP/GRID metadatabase in the near future.
Most of the datasets are in vector format, the administrative boundaries and communication infrastructure for countries of South America, The Philippines and Central Africa. Some general elevation and land use data in raster format is also available, mostly for Africa (Ivory Coast) and The Phillipines. Climatic data is maintained for almost every region of focus, but complete time series are missing. Datasets are relevant for agricultural activities in those regions, supporting the modelling and research of related issues concerning potato and rice production mainly. Almost every dataset is stored in Arc/Info format, some of them also in IDRISI. The catalogue can be obtained as an Excel (5.0) .xls file by ftp from our site, GRID Arendal, or you can download separate Excel or Word files for one or more of the Centers:

  • ftp the entire Data Catalogue !! At the moment missing data for ICIMOD and ILRI, will be updated soon!!

  • ... or Browse our temporary searching facility for available data from the Centers. Many centers provided only "skiny" data, this will be updated:

To obtain the actual data, you should contact the Center that maintains it, but there might be restrictions on the availability, as mentioned in most cases in the Catalogue.
