Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment of development of the Arctic - EU

The EU Arctic Impact Assessment is part of the “Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment of development of the Arctic”, which will identify recommendations to guide future EU Arctic policies.

In order to develop this report, GRID-Arendal is organizing consultative meetings for Arctic stakeholders to provide EU decision-makers with inputs on the current trends in the European Arctic, and assess the role of EU policies in the region. Following on the successful first session that gathered over 100 Arctic stakeholders and experts in Rovaniemi in October 2013, the second consultative meeting will be held in Tromsø, Norway, on January 22, 2014.

The final assessment, which will combine inputs from stakeholder and work of experts, is to be published in Spring 2014, and serve to strengthen communication between EU institutions and Arctic stakeholders.

In addition, the EU Arctic Impact Assessment will serve as a guide and feasibility study for the EU Arctic Information Centre initiative.
