Taimyr Coastline

Year: 2010 Taken by: Peter Prokosch
The Taimyr Autominous Area occupies 800,000 sq km, an area the size of England, France and the Netherlands combined. Only 3% of the subsurface here has been studied but there are believed to be healthy reserves of coal, oil, gas, copper, titanium, complex metal ores, mercury, graphite and iron in the area. The area is home to the World's Northernmost forests and three nature preserves: The Great Arctic Preserve, the Taimyr Biosphere Preserve, and Putoran Preserve.
