The Shoebill is a very large stork-like bird, which mainly lives in swamps in Sudan, Uganda, eastern Zaire and Zambia. Its total population is estimated at between 5 000 and 8 000 individuals and classified as Vulnerable. Main threats are habitat destruction, disturbance and hunting. - Shoebills feed in muddy waters, preying on fish, frogs, reptiles such as baby crocodiles, birds and small mammals.
