River ice break-up, Taimyra river, Taimyr, Russia
In the beginning of July, the ice of the Taimyra river ice begins to break up. The rumbling sounds of falling ice splints and turning and crashing blocks are fill the tundra atmosphere. The picture was taken during the 1989 German-Russian WWF-expedition close to the Taimyr lake and the Biranga mountains.
