Regrowth after fire, southern Norway
Year:
2010
Taken by:
Peter Prokosch
Forest fires can play an important role in keeping the forest ecosystem healthy. While forest fires sometimes have devastating effects on human settlements, they provide several benefits for the forest biodiversity. For example, fires open up the forest floor giving space to new plant species, and certain species are dependent on burnt soil for regrowth.
