Pyasina Delta, Great Arctic Reserve, Taimyr, Russia, July 1991

The 818 km long Pyasina River (Russian: Пясина) flows with a huge delta into the Pyasino Gulf of the Kara Sea at the coast of the Taimyr peninsular. The Pyasina delta is besides the Taimyra delta the most important wetland in North-Siberia, where Brent geese (Branta b. bernicla) and other goose species spend their summer when being flightless during their moult of wing-feathers. The delta therefore became in 1993 part of the Great Arctic Reserve (Zapovednik).
