Parts of the shoreline in the Seychelles has been reclaimed from the sea, by coastal reclamation. These artificial islands, located around the capital Victoria, have been built to relieve the development pressure on hillsides due to erosion and landslides. Infrastructure development along the coast increases its vulnerability to coastal erosion, rising sea levels and tropical cyclones.
Various attempts have been made to protect these islands from further erosion with little more than temporary relief.
