Established in the 1963, the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was the first undersea park created in the United States. The park represents over 70 square nautical miles of mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, and coral reefs. Kayak paddling through the park’s mangrove estuary is a popular tourist activity.
