In 2008 the United Nations Environment Program expressed extreme concern for the implications of climate change on the Arctic regions. A warming Arctic climate is projected to change sea temperature and melt ice sheets, destroying vital ecosystems which operate in these Arctic areas. According to NASA, Even small changes in ice could mean drastic changes to our water cycle and global climate.
