The Horned Grebe or Slavonian Grebe, Podiceps auritus, is a member of the grebe family of water birds. It appears in Northern Norway (here at a breeding site at the Porsanger fjord) when in May the lake ice is opening. The Slavonian Grebe is a migratory bird, which depends on an ecological network of specific fresh water habitats. It is covered by the Convention on Migratory species (CMS) and to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies.
