Geyser at Geysir, Iceland
Year:
2010
Taken by:
Peter Prokosch
Geysers are named after this site, Geysir, a famous tourism attraction in Iceland. They are a type of hot spring and occur only under specific conditions where water boiling deep down in a series of tubes in the ground creates explosive pressure, spurting water out into the air.
The heat that is generated at sites like this one in Iceland has huge potential for electricity generation.
