The Carpinteria Salt Marsh Reserve, part of the University of California Natural Reserve System, is an area of swampy land reserved and preserved for wildlife. It serves as a stopover area for migratory birds, and provides nursery and shelter for many fish species. The reserve protects this important area and provides researchers access to an ecologically important estuary.
