Arctic tern, Sterna paradisea
Year:
2011
Taken by:
Peter Prokosch
The Arctic Tern enjoys the most hours of sunlight of any animal on Earth. This long distance migratory species has a circumpolar breeding range up to the high Arctic, where there is constant sunshine in summer. As winter falls in the Arctic the species migrates South, sometimes as far as the Antarctic waters, where there is again constant sunshine.
