<a href=http://maps.grida.no/go/graphic/ice-sheets-schematic-illustration-for-greenland-and-antarctica>Calving</a> is the name for the process of a piece of ice (sometimes kilometers wide) breaking off an ice shelf and becoming an iceberg. Large tabular icebergs, such as the one pictured, are common off the Antarctic peninsular.
