GRID-Arendal has the pleasure of hosting a one-day meeting on 20th August in Arendal, Norway. The meeting will constitute an important first step for a long term programme of work to support the development of capacity for integrated ocean management, working closely with the UNEP Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Branch to support their Global Ecosystem Based Management Capacity Building programme. It will bring together experts from South East Asia, the Western Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and from Norwegian institutions.
Norway, through GRID-Arendal and its partners, has access to resources, institutions and networks that have competencies in certain aspects of marine management (from coastal to deep waters, data management, data visualization, issues pertaining to non living resources, spatial planning etc.). The intended aim of this meeting will be to explore these experiences and capacities and map out where and how they may be of relevance to the identified needs of developing coastal states and SIDS wishing to develop policies and practices for ocean management.
