Abu Dhabi Launches 1st State of Environment Report

The first State of Environment Report for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi was launched in an official ceremony on Monday March 19, 2007 at Emirates Palace, announced the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD).

What is the Report?
According to EAD, the report is a valuable tool that will help decision-makers analyze the latest information to assess environmental trends. The report identifies and analyzes key issues in environmental areas according to each of their Drivers, Pressures, State, Impact and Response, also known as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) DPSIR Model.

Who Contributed to the Report?
The report is a compilation of data that was compiled by EAD and its partners. These partners include local and federal government bodies, academia and non-governmental agencies. 
The preparations have been supported by GRID-Arendal and Svein Tveitdal and Jorun Reikvam will be introducing the report and its content to a high level round table at the launch.
Coinciding with the workshop, will be another workshop facilitated by GRID-Arendal on the role of specialized media in spreading awareness about the State of the Environment Report in Abu Dhabi which will discuss the media’s role and will review the prospects for future common action.

The report is easily accessible, in Arabic and English, to the general public at www.soe.ae

The State of Environment Report is part of the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative, which was launched by the UAE Government in 2002 at the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa. EAD was designated the lead agency, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), for the development and implementation of this initiative.
