A boom in poached “succulent” plants is among the latest threats facing Africa’s rare and endangered wildlife, a meeting in the Kenyan capital has learnt.

A new report by the World Resource Institute (WRI) launched today urges governance reforms to arrest accelerating decline of the world's environment. The report, World Resources 2002-2004: Decisions for the Earth—Balance, Voice, and Power, stresses that these changes are urgently needed in order to arrest the accelerating deterioration of the world’s environment and to meet the needs of the poor.
