World Environment Day Seoul, 5 June 1997 - As many of you will recall, in January, UNEP published its first Global Environmental Outlook report. The message of the GEO report was clear: Humanity is polluting and using up vital renewable resources -- fresh water, urban air, forests and soils -- faster than they can regenerate themselves.
