The first report, entitled ENVSEC Climate Change in Eastern Europe (in Russian), explores the impacts of climate change in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. The second report, entitled Environment and Security in the Amu Darya River Basin, 2011, identifies the environmental stress points in the Amu Darya basin that have, or may have security repercussions for the states and population, and suggests solutions to the challenges identified during the assessment.

The “Environment for Europe” process is a partnership of member States within the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region, UN organizations represented in the region, other intergovernmental organizations, regional environmental centers, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and other major groups. The conference will discuss environmental issues of common concern in the UNECE region and provide an opportunity to focus on the most challenging environmental issues for the countries of Central Asia.

The themes of this year’s conference are “Sustainable management of water and water-related ecosystems” and “Greening the economy: mainstreaming the environment into economic development.”  The Conference will address policies to protect water-related ecosystems, linkages between human health and water, water management adaptation to climate change, cooperation in transboundary basins, water efficiency, effective green economy policies in the transport, housing, energy, agriculture and education sectors.
