Celebrating World Oceans Day - 8 June

GRID-Arendal, the Arendal Diving Centre/Diving Club and Flumill AS celebrated World Oceans Day with a series of events including a refreshing dip in the sea in front of the UN House.

Members of the Arendal Diving Club shared their experiences and findings when diving in the waters around Arendal. They picked up garbage from the bottom of the harbour area, showing a bad example of how people are treating the ocean.

On the other hand; as an example of harnessing the resources of the ocean; representatives from Flumill AS presented their patented technology and plans to test a 1.5 MW tidal power pilot system by the end of this year.

The theme of this year’s World Oceans Day  was "Our Oceans: greening our future".

More info about the day and the activities happening worldwide can be found on http://worldoceansday.org

Jumping into the ocean

Nice! The water held 14 degrees this day.

A discarded car battery was among what the divers found at the bottom.   This bottle, encrusted with algae, must have been lying there for some time.
