GRID-Arendal was established in 1989 as a Norwegian Foundation by the Norwegian Ministry of Environment and UNEP in response to the recommendations of the 1987 World Commission on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro
For the last 25 years, GRID-Arendal has supported the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) by providing environmental information, communications and capacity building services to strengthen environmental management capacity and to motivate decision-makers to act.
As we celebrate this milestone, we will be reflecting on our past successes, and looking forward to strengthening our partnership with UNEP and other partners. The core theme of our 25th anniversary celebration will be ‘The Arctic and Sustainable Development Goals: Can the region serve as a model for environmental policies and sustainable development?’
Our celebrations on August 14-15, 2014 will coincide with Norway’s top political summer event and arena for informal discussions, the Arendalsuka. Arendalsuka is an annual forum where top national actors from politics, society and business meet to debate, explore and develop policy for now and the future. A number of parallel events will be held during the week, offering be a great opportunity to interact and network with strategic partners.
