Components 1 and 2—Capacity- and Knowledge-Building
Fieldwork, including habitat assessments, harvest studies, bird surveys, and surveys on traditional nature use, is ongoing in the three Model Areas since 2005. The first results of GIS mapping have been received and development of maps has been contracted in some Model Areas.
Non-fieldwork on documenting baseline environmental and socio-economic conditions , including assessments of administrative and legal regimes and assessment of species conservation and habitat protection measures, is also ongoing in the three regions. Training activities have been held by experts in environmental policy and management, aimed at local administrators, and development of other training and education initiatives has begun.
Significant work has been undertaken to raise public awareness at the local level via print and electronic media.
Component 3—Integrated Ecosystem Management (IEM) Plans and Strategies
Draft IEM Action Plans have been developed in all three Model Areas, with finalization of the Action Plans being the next step.
Component 4—Pilot Projects
Pilot project proposals have been prepared in all three Model Areas, and discussion on the development of the pilot projects is underway in consultation with the draft IEM Action Plans.
